How to Love Your Job

January 1st, 2009

With the job market tight in today’s struggling economy, employees considering looking for new opportunities may begin to feel trapped in their current position; thus employees may begin to feel dissatisfaction with their employment. The individual’s point of view towards the matter is indicative of how happy they will feel in their position.

Here are a few tips on how to change your outlook toward your job:

Bullet Arrow Find three positive aspects of your job you like
Bullet Arrow Make your desk warm and inviting (bring a candle, plant, picture, etc)
Bullet Arrow Set goals for yourself outside of your job
Bullet Arrow Take a five minute break for fresh air
Bullet Arrow Understand that how you work defines you, not your job.
Bullet Arrow Focus on your health because that can make or break how you feel
Bullet Arrow Exercise to get your endorphins flowing
Bullet Arrow Exercise to get your endorphins flowing, whether before work or at lunch
Bullet Arrow Evaluate the personality of your boss and co-workers to gain a better understanding of how to interact with them. Smooth communication can bring ease and peace to your workday.
Bullet Arrow Don’t forget to take care of yourself.

These are simple ways to improve your day to day encounters with your work environment. However, over the long term you have to learn to adapt to alternative management styles, work styles of colleagues, and your work culture. But if you can maintain a positive outlook, your satisfaction will increase and your stress level will decrease. Do what you need to do to protect your positive outlook on your job. By planning your day, week, month, and even your year ahead of you, you can reduce stress by implementing organization into your daily outlook on your current position. Reduced stressed, optimal health, and overall positive outlook are key to satisfaction in your job and more so in your life.

“If you can’t be in the job you love, love the job you’re in.”
- Jim Bird
