Industry: Computer Software
Computer software, simply put, is what makes your computer run. Companies such as Microsoft produce software in a variety of different sectors such as Windows (system software) and Microsoft, including Word (writing software) and excel (statistical analysis software). Computer software includes organizing and tracking company data, gaming devices, global positioning systems, and even portable email devices in which these applications need software to be told what to do. As computers become smaller and more compact and the demand for more and more applications on these small devices increases, the job positions in the computer software industry are becoming more plentiful. The Silicon Valley in California is a rapidly growing location for computer software positions due to its prominent location near the center of technological growth. Programming and pre-programmed software are two of the most prominent positions within the computer software field. Many software companies are producing software that can be uploaded from the client’s own computer and updated on a regular basis. Software applications are focusing on user friendliness and accessibility. However, many of the computer software positions have been outsourced to eager to work employees across the globe, leaving the number of jobs in the computer software industry limited in the United States. Although, employers are always looking to fill the more advanced positions with highly qualified individuals who usually have MBA’s and prestigious experience.
Microsoft and Oracle are some of the key players in the computer software industry focusing on filling positions with individuals who can write codes for software, create new applications that will allow computers to run more efficiently and be more useful to the client, and broadening the use of products by minimizing the software to allow more applications on one device. For individuals who have the ability to understand and grasp the concepts of system software, your value within a company is priceless. To uninformed individuals, computer software can seem complex and daunting, while, tech-savvy employees find thrill in collaborating with their team members to produce new and improved software. The vast majority of software engineers within computer software companies find solace and compatibility with their fellow employees because they share the same goal, are intellectually adept, and usually share the same work ethic, thriving off of getting the job done before the deadline. Often in the computer software industry it may feel like there is no break because once your current product has been completed, the first step of the next project is already up to bat.
It takes a wide variety of team members in order to get the job done in the computer software industry; some of these positions include software engineer, technical support, software writer, project manager, and software design and marketing specialist. These positions range from $30,000 to $120,000 in salary with a wide variety of range depending on experience. Companies need a variety of employees to produce a successful product because they need someone to develop the product, manufacture the product, market the product to the public, and insure client satisfaction. The computer software industry is a full cycle process searching for top talent. No matter what the position, it is crucial that employees stay abreast of industry trends and consumer needs in order to be as competent and valuable as possible. The computer software industry offers employees the freedom to be creative within structure and deadlines, but computer software employees are ahead of the curve in technology trends and skill.
