On Tuesday, the spotlight will shift to Tim CookApple Inc.’s new chief executive, as he faces his first public test since taking the reins from Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Apple is expected to unveil its next-generation iPhone at an invitation-only event at its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET.

In the past, Mr. Jobs has served as chief showman at product launch keynotes, but Apple hasn’t said who will present at Tuesday’s iPhone event.

Unlike some recent keynotes, Apple doesn’t plan to stream video of Tuesday’s event on the Internet.
