NEW YORK — The dollar fell against most of its rivals after U.S. jobless claims unexpectedly rose to their highest level in nine months, further stoking fears about the country’s already weak labor market.

The greenback extended its losses against the yen, nearing a 15-year-low at 84.72 yen as investors fled to the traditional safe haven. The dollar also dropped to a seven-month low against the Swiss franc and fell against the euro.
