Marks and Spencer has appointed Alan Stewart, who helped turn round WH Smith, as its new finance director. He replaces Ian Dyson, who announced his intention to leave the company in May.
The 50-year old Mr Stewart is chief executive of AWAS, an aircraft leasing company, but he is best known to the City as finance director at WH Smith from 2005 to 2008.
