NEW YORK—NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker confirmed he will leave the media giant after its corporate parent, General Electric Corp., completes a deal to sell a majority stake of the company to Comcast Corp., the nation’s largest cable provider.

The move was Comcast’s call, according to a person familiar with the matter.

In a memo to employees, Mr. Zucker said the deal’s closing is still months away, and he will remain in his job until then, and he will continue to approach his job “with the long-term interest of the company in mind.”
